sewage disposal

Sewage disposal unit works in three processes. First, sewage is transferred in settling tank. In this tank, undecayed solids settle in the base of tank. Then, this solid are removed and burned. The polluted water is transferred to pump house. In the pump house, water is pumped in high speed to the next process in sprinkle beds. Polluted water pass three steps in sprinkle beds. Firstly, it is rotated in rotating area. Then, jets of polluted water is come out from rotating area and filtered. This purified water is safe to enter the river.

water distribution

House has water distribution system. It works in several processes. Firstly, water is distributed from water supplier by underground pipes. Then, it is distributed to house appliances such as toilet, sink, wash basin and bath. Some water is stored in cold water tank and hot water tank. In hot water tank, water is heated. After that, the warm/hot water is distributed bath, wash basin and sink.

The Process of Purifying Water (Sewage Disposal)

After the polluted water enters the sewer, it will go through a simple process until it is changed into purified water, which then, can enter the river without endangering the environment. This process has no human intervention in it, and the whole cycle will be done by a mechanism that is made specifically for this.

First of all, after the ‘contaminated water’ enters the main sewer, it will flow into the settling tank, where the solids, which can’t decay, are separated from the water. These solids are then burned in a separate place. Then, the polluted water, which is now solid-free, goes into the pump house, where it will be pumped into the sprinkler beds. The sprinkle beds are where the purification will take place. The dirty water will be filtered through a bed made of stones and micro-organisms. After that, the water that has been purified goes into a pipe where it will be brought to the river.

Household Water Distribution

Hot and cold water are distributed into a house in few simple steps. First, the cold water from the mains is transported into the cold water tank, where it will be transferred into the hot water tank. In the hot water tank, the cold water is heated up so that it becomes hot water. Then both, the cold water from the mains and the hot water from the hot water tank, are distributed to each house appliance where water is used, like the bath, the wash basin and the sink. Cold water from the mains is also distributed to the toilet.

Bandung's Local Delicacies

Bandung has plenty of unique delicacies that can only be found in this city. One of them is a food called “Mie Kocok”. Mie kocok is usually translated into ‘mixed noodles’. Though this kind of noodle is not usually mixed, instead it means that this noodle is served with many kinds of side dishes. It is served with stewed beef skin, beef foot and bean sprouts. It is also served with an almost-clear sauce that is seasoned with a unique taste because of the herbs and spices mixed into it making it delicious to the taste buds. Bandung is the only city that serves this special taste.

sewage disposal

A process to disposing sewage contains some steps before it is entering the water. First, the sewage, that contains polluted water and undecayed solids, enters the settling tank where the polluted water was being cleaned and the undecayed solids are removed and buried at the bottom of the tank. After that, the water went through the pipe into the pump house to be sent to the sprinkler beds. Here at the sprinkler beds, the water sent to the rotating arms where the polluted water will be filtered by stones and microorganism. This area is fenced by brick works so that the water won’t get out from the area. After being filtered, the water is ready to enter the river because it is already clean. The water is being sent to the pipe that connected o the river.

Bogor, the city of green or the city of green?

During the old times, Bogor was famous because of the greenish color when Bogor was viewed from the heights. The greenish color came mostly from the trees and grass which lived and grown up on the center and the corners of the city. The trees and grass created the beautiful and fresh green color and made the romantic and cool aura of the city. One good example was the Botanical Garden, the most attractive place in Bogor until now. It has lots of trees and grass which are grown on its ground and refresh the eyes of the people who look at them.

Nowadays, Bogor is still a green city either. But, it’s a pity that Bogor now has it greenish color from the public transportation cars operating in the streets of Bogor. These cars are coincidently painted green and also create the greenish color everywhere and instead of creating a cool aura, this green color creates otherwise. The most greenish color would be clearly viewed if there is a traffic jam. I’m really sure if people view Bogor from the heights now, they would be easily disappointed.

I’m proud by the fact that Bogor is known as a green city, but I also feel ashamed when I knew that the green color is unnatural. These two facts make a harmonized irony for me, as one of the students at ITB who comes from Bogor, my hometown.

The Works of Water Tanks

A house with a water supply needs a water-pipe to deliver the water through the house. If we look at the picture above, the water comes from the main pipe which is connected with the water pipes inside the house. On the picture also, we see that the water-pipe inside the house is a parallel pipe which delivers its water through different branch-pipes to various home appliances, such as the sink, the toilet, the washbasin, and the bathtub. Excluding the toilet, other appliances are provided with two different pipes which are the hot and cold water pipes.

Firstly, the water enters the house through the main pipe. On the first floor, a parallel water-pipe sends some water to the sink, meanwhile the rest of the water keeps going through the second floor. On the second floor, four parallel pipes delivered the rest of water which is going through and send them to its own place. The toilet pipe sends it to the toilet, the washbasin sends it to the washbasin, and so on. Furthermore, another parallel pipe sends an amount of water to the cold water tank to make the water cold of course. The cold water tank colds the water by lowering the temperature of the tank so that the water can be cold enough. After this process, the cold water is sent to the hot water tank to make it hot. Finally, the water from the hot water tank is going through the pipe to the bathtub.

Asinan

It has already known widely in Indonesia that one of the most famous traditional foods in Bogor is asinan. Asinan is a kind of salad poured with sauce as its topping. Despite having the name asinan (asinan is derived from the word asin, an Indonesian word which literally translated as salty in English), asinan has a unique mixture of sweet, sour and spicy taste. Asinan is made of a variation of vegetables and fruits. For example, we use vegetable ingredients such as bangkuang, sweet potato, sliced cabbage, cucumber, bean sprout and daun antanan, a kind of herb. Meanwhile, from the fruits ingredients, we use kedondong, salak, unripe mango and unripe papaya. On the other way, the sauce itself is made of a blended mixture of red chili, dried shrimps, belacan paste, vinegar, salt and sugar which is boiled in a large amount of water. Sometimes, to enhance its taste, people add fried peanuts, noodle crackers, or raw chili sauce on top of it. People can eat asinan as a single-ingredient dish (vegetables only or fruits only), but also can eat it as a mixed-ingredient dish, and usually most of us eat it mixed. Actually, asinan is made as an appetizer, but mostly the people in Indonesia eat it as a dessert due to their fear that the sour taste of asinan will cause them a stomachache if they eat it before the main course.

My Hometown ( Editan )_ Swarna

Medan is a big city which developed from a small village named Medan Putri Village. It was found by a Karonese man, Guru Patimpus. He was a medical doctor then. The name of this city is believed to be taken from a Karonese language and it means ‘became healthy’ or ‘better’.

In the olden days, Medan was inhabited only by Karonese people. After the king of Aceh, Sultan Iskandar Muda, sent his soldier to Tanah Deli, the Malay settled in this city. Nowadays, Javanese and Bataknese are the majority inhabitants in this city. There are also India and Tionghoa people. This makes Medan a multiethnic city.

The variety of culture in Medan can be seen from its buildings. A house of the late Tjong A Fie, a successful businessman, is an icon of Tionghoa ethnic in Medan. Kampung Keling, the settlement of India people, is a reflection of India culture. Istana Maimun, the castle of Sultan Deli, is a historical evidence of the Malay existence, while Padang Bulan, the settlement of Karonese, keeps Medan’s originality. This culture diversity makes Medan grow faster and be a better place to live.

Water supplies

The clean water that we usually used is distributed into a few steps. The first step, the clean water is distributed from Water Company or ground water through the main pipes of our house. After that, the water will be transferred from the main pipes into all small water pipes in the house such as sink, wash basin and bath. Some of the water also saved into the cold water tank. To get the hot water, next, the water from cold water tank flow to the hot water tank to be heated. Then, the hot water will be distributed again into the home appliances like bath, wash basin, and sink.

Wayang

Wayang is one of traditional arts in Indonesia. In English, “Pementasan wayang” is called puppets show. Usually, puppets show in Indonesia consists of the puppets itself, the performer, and the music. In my city, east java, the puppets were made from leather and every puppet has its own characteristic at the show. Dalang, the performer of puppet show, performs a story of the puppets behind a screen, so the audiences just see the shadow of the puppets. For the sounds –as background music-, puppet show usually has a group of music that performs Javanese music –which use traditional music instruments from Java, like gamelan- and sinden as the singer.

Sewage Disposal by wahyu

The first stage of the sewage disposal system is the settling tank. Sewage water goes into the tank. Then, the undecayed solids that is contained in the sewage water will be sedimented in the bottom of the tank. By then, the sedimented materials can be removed out of the tank and further on burned. The remaining polluted water goes to the second stage of the sewage disposal system, which is the pump house.
The pump house pumps the polluter water into the third stage of the sewage disposal system, the sprinkler beds.
The sprinkler bed is the third stage of the sewage disposal system. Using the power of the pump, the polluted water is transported into the rotating arms. These rotating arms have sprinklers that showers jets of polluted water into the soil filter underneath. The filter is formed by stones and micro-organism, and is fenced by brick works, so as the polluted water does not seep sidewards. The polluted water then has nowhere else to go from the filter but downwards. On the bottom of the filter is the waterway of clean water. Having gone through the filter, the polluted water is now purified and no longer contains pollutants. Then, the waterway/pipe transfers this purified water into the river.

Pengumuman

Sewege Disposal Unit by Cynthia

There are three main processes to purified water before entering river in sewage disposal unit. At the first stage, settling tank, solids are settle from the dirty water, come from main sewer. It will be removed and burned. The output is polluted water. The polluted water goes into the second stage, pump house. It is in order to accelerate the water. Then it ready to begin the third stage, sprinkler beds. The polluted water is sprouted with jets to the filter. The rotating arm makes it to be speared evenly. Stone and micro-organism can’t pass by it. At the end, purified water that ready entering river, we get as the final result.

unique food & water

Water

Water from the main is distributed regularly to the house in two ordinary ways. First, water from main is distributed to the cold water tank and fill the water tank then water is distributed again to the hot water tank to be heated then it is distributed to household equipment. Second way, cold water is distributed to household equipment for example baths, wash basins, toilets and sinks.

Surabi

Surabi is a traditional food from Bandung. It is made from rice flour, wheat, coconut shaving, salt and some water. Surabi is made with traditional fireplace that is made from clay and fueled with charcoal. Mostly, Surabi has a burnt bottom. Previously, Surabi only had two flavors spicy and mild. All spicy surabi is spread by oncom(fermented cake that is made from soybean) as it’s topping , and all mild flavor didn’t have a topping. Usually the mild flavor was dipped to kinca (brown sugar).
Nowadays, Surabi has many more flavors for example, Surabi oncom mayonnaise, Surabi with egg and cheese, Surabi with chocolate, banana cheese, and so on. The best place to try surabi is at NHI setiabudi.

What is a thesis statement?

The MOST IMPORTANT SENTENCE in your paper
Lets the reader know the main idea of the paper
Answers the question: What am I trying to “prove?”
Not a factual statement, but a claim that has to be “proven” throughout the paper

Role of the thesis statement
The thesis statement should guide your reader through your argument.
The thesis statement is generally located in the introduction of the paper.
A thesis statement may also be located within the body of the paper or in the conclusion, depending upon the purpose of the paper.

Sample of the bad 1st paragraph

i disagree with this statement. television is media for people to get anything around them. television help us to entertain ourself, give us more information, and everything that happened around us. watching tv help us to know what's in and what's out. we will see anything around the world and it will increase our knowledge. when we feel bored with our activities we can watching tv, at least it will help us to rest and forget our troubles. television is a good media for us to lose our stress. we can watching tv together with our family and discuss about news or program in television. some people believe that television can destroy or dangerous, but for me its depends on how we use television as good as possible. we can prevent negative effects from television by choosing a good program that deserve to watch, educate us and give us benefits. prevent the programs that contents violence. porn, and less education.
______________

another sample of bad 1st paragraph

I disagree with that opinion. Because I think it depends on the character of individual. We have to manage our time by allocating time to watch television just in our spare time. Television can give us many benefits. However, watching television shouldn’t let us to waste our time, or to miss our responsibility. We don’t need too much time in front of television if we want to get information about anything happen around us. We can get the information by watching the news morning or night in 0,5 - 1,5 hours. Or if we want to be entertained, we can watch movie or reality show which duration is 1-1,5 hours. It is about how we use TV as and how we control ourselves by managing our time. So, we can do our job and responsibility, we can take care our family, and we still can get the benefits of TV.
-----------------------

Sample of good one.

Family is the most important influence in everyone’s life, but television is not far behind. Television has become one of the most attractive media of entertainment and information. To a certain extent, Television can reduce one’s social sense in community and can lead to more aggressive and less physical activities. Though with those obvious negative images, I still believe that Television can gives us healthy, enjoyable, and educative experiences if we know how Television can affects us and how to ward it off.

Please go to www.lc.itb.ac.id/jati/e-learning and please click on the 'television button' and write your first paragraph. I will give you feed back and tell you what to do.

methane gas

Methane Gas

Basically, methane gas can be produced from rubbish. It was from the organic rubbish that dumped. When the dumps grow more and more, the number methane gas become larger. After the accumulation reach the limit, it will caused explosion. Now, the technology developed and we can avoid this to happen. Step by step with technology, we can conserve the organic rubbish and recycle them. The first step is put the organic compounds into the warming bed. In warming bed, this compounds will be separated and being conserved in the next step. The results, some are used for fertilizer and the others for making the methane gas. The organic compounds for making the methane passed through the dirt trap. Only gasses can pass this trap and the dirt are left in the base of the trap. After this step, the gas runs to the gas indicator where the methane gas were sterilized from the other gas (dirt). In this step, water have an important rule. By using the principal of distillation, and the differences of boiling point each gasses, the water separated the methane gas from the other. The next step is releases excess gas when the pressure is too high. This can be for preventing the explosion. Last step, is the most important step where the methane gas runs into the gas holder. Gas holder consists of some inner tubes that have function for weighting the methane gas. After all the step is finished, the methane gas that have been proceeded can be use for daily needs.

Extraction of Methane Gas from Household Waste

Methane which is used for cooking, heating, even lighting is actually extractable from the household waste. First, the waste is separated from a fermentation system in a warming bed to be next collected to a dirt trap for some separating process towards the polluter. After the separating process, the gas goes through the gas indicator which indicates the gas’ existence by the bubbling methane spread in the water. For the safety reason of the methane’s explosive capability, high-care safety standards pressure must be maintained at all times during the operation through the pressure release process. Here, the excess gas can be released to the water when the pressure is high. For the last step, the gas is put into a gas holder to increase its pressure for finally used by opening the gas tap connected to it.

Unique Place in Jakarta

In the Central Jakarta (or ‘the center of Jakarta’) there is a place called Kemang. It is a place where many rich people live. So if someone mentions about Kemang, what people will have in their minds is expensive food, luxurious hotels, etc. It is true that the food there is expensive, but the fact is that many people go to Kemang just to eat together with their family or friends. This is because they want to experience the atmosphere there. The atmosphere is really cozy.

MPANDU - Description - Rafflesia Arnoldi

Flowers are often seen as symbols for beauty, love, or even life. But that stereotype does not apply for the Rafflesia Arnoldi species. Rafflesia Arnoldi is called by many as the ‘Corpse Flower’ because, literally, it smells like rotting flesh. It is also a parasite for other plants. Those facts are already more than enough to explain why Rafflesia Arnoldi does not symbolize beauty like most other flowers do.

But aside from its stink and its habit to take life from other plants, the species is considered very unique and extremely distinct. Particularly, those are because Rafflesia Arnoldi is currently the largest known flower in the world, and because the species is now near extinct. In addition to its size and rarity, Rafflesia Arnoldi also has a wondrous shape and colour.

Rafflesia Arnoldi live mostly in the island of Sumatra. But it still won’t be easy to be found there, because it only exist in a very small number and the-flower-bloom itself only lasts for a few days. Right now scientists and environmentalists are trying to find some ways to preserve the species through many ways such as creating some artificial environments which support the Rafflesia Arnoldi to live in.
